The Magical World of Harry Potter: Social Class and Education in the Classroom
The inspiration for this project starts with my 8 year old self. I fell in love with Harry Potter when I was in 3rd grade thanks to a motivated teacher. I wont bore you with all the details or banter about my obsession. Just know that this was the trip/opportunity of a lifetime for me and I will take everything I learn from this and implement it into my classroom.
In the Spring of 2016 I had the wonderful privilage of studying Harry Potter in a whole new aspect. I am partacking in a class that has me deeply diving into the magical world of Harry Potter through an educational perspective. There are multiple themes that I wanted to explore but one above all else stood out: Social Class. Social class is very unique becuase It can pertain to any moment in time and any where in the world. We all experience it. My only question is: How is social class engaged with in Harry Potter and what can I do to use this to benefit my classroom? This website contains my questions and my findings. It also contains the lesson plans that I created which could be modified for any grade level 7-12.
